5 Ways My Life Improved from a 2 Month Social Media Break

Hi Everyone – I’m finally BACK! I took a 2 month break from posting on social media and let me tell you…. It was AMAZING. Don’t get me wrong, I love social media and sharing my life with you, but I felt like I completely lost focus of myself. All I cared about was “how many likes did my post get?” and was constantly comparing myself to others! Basically, I was destroying my self worth EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I needed to make a change (or a few…) and that’s why I’ve been MIA.

These last 2 months I’ve learned so much about myself and the goals I have for my life. Here are the 5 major ways my life improved from a 2 month break from social media:

1. Physical & Mental Health

I started working out again & am lifting 5 days a week (thanks to @minnyhustlers!!!) I’m currently on the last week of their 8 week challenge and y’all… I’ve lost 5% body fat & gained 5 pounds of muscle, but more importantly I feel STRONG and CONFIDENT. If you need a new workout plan, give them a follow and try their 4 week or 8 week programs!

Also, I’m still going to therapy (& have been since July!) EVERYONE NEEDS THERAPY! I used to be so against therapy because I thought I was fine…. but it has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Pleasepleaseplease heal yourself and your traumas – your future self will thank you for it.

2. Finances

I moved out of my downtown apartment to the suburbs where I’m living rent-free while I save for a house. I’m taking a personal finance course called “The Wealth Accelerator” (S/O to @deeperthanmoney) and I feel like I’m getting back on track and learning so much about how to handle my money and make it work for me!

3. Alcohol Consumption

I have only drank a few glasses of wine here and there over the last 2 months – I’m finding that I don’t really care for the taste of alcohol anymore (also good for saving calories!!).

4. Full Time Career

I focused a LOT of my time and energy on my full time career with Target and was promoted in February! I’m so happy to be recognized for the work I’ve done and value I’ve added to my team over the last 2.5 years.

5. Relationship

Let me start this off by saying my relationship has always been amazing. I’m so happy and blessed to have met such a loving man (especially in the middle of a pandemic?!?), but that doesn’t mean its always easy. We are long distance until June/July and I was sooo nervous at the beginning, but let me tell you – distance makes the heart grow fonder and I know we’ve both grown and improved our communication! I’m so excited for life with him!

It seems kind of silly, but taking a break from instagram allowed myself to improve other areas of my life to where I needed them to be and now I’m ready to get back into blogging! A few small changes to your life can make the biggest difference and I hope you allow yourself to take breaks when needed.

Now that I’m coming back to social media, there are 3 things I want to change about my content:

  1. REAL LIFE – I want to continue to share outfits but incorporate the reality of life into each post! Instagram became such a highlight reel to me that I was so discouraged about certain parts of my life. I want to share about finances, mental health, physical health, mindset changes with you and inspire you to be your best – what’s the point of social media if we aren’t real???
  2. CONSISTENCY – This one is the HARDEST for me! I don’t plan far enough ahead and know what I want to share, so when I don’t have content I don’t post. However, after working out daily for the last 8 weeks, I am more confident in myself to come up with a plan and stick to it!
  3. COMMUNITY – I want to create a safe place for people to share their experiences and connect with others! I think so many of us feel alone with where we are in life but the reality is we aren’t alone. We just don’t know who else is going through the same thing because we don’t talk about it. Let’s normalize being open and empathetic and caring for others.

I’m so excited to be back and share some amazing things with all of you!

Genuinely,

Gabbi
