My Trip to Malaysia

I’ve always loved to travel and explore new places! This past March I had the opportunity to go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to visit my boyfriend, Stuart (or Stuuuu as I call him)! I’ve been all over the US and Europe, but this was my first trip to Asia! Stuart’s been working there since February and the work trip is ALMOST over – he’ll be back in late August! He was able to take vacation so we explored Kuala Lumpur and an island a few hours north.

If you’re like me, you know that FREE travel is the best travel, and his company offered to pay for my plane ticket which saved me over $2,000 (#blessed) and earned me a ton of Skymiles on Delta! I’m pretty loyal to Delta – it’s the preferred airline for work so it makes sense for me to fly them on my personal travel! I’ll be making a post about my travel tips soon!

Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur (KL) is the capital of Malaysia and is known for the Petronas Towers, which happened to be the backdrop from the infinity pool at our hotel! The Face Suites is a 51 story hotel in downtown KL with a gorgeous view of the city and surrounding mountains.

Hotel: The Face Suites

The Face Suites was an amazing place to stay for a few nights – we were in a 2 bedroom suite with a glamorous bathroom and kitchen for only $150 a night! It’s an absolute must have on your list if you’re staying in KL anytime in the future! I’d recommend booking the hotel on their website for the best deal. Check out the hotel on their website here – The Face Suites. My instagram story highlight for Malaysia has some videos of our hotel room!

Things to Do in KL:

Dinner at The Grand Hyatt

We had one of the best meals of our trip at the Thirty8 Restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Hotel! I had wagyu beef fried rice (one of my favorite foods) and Stuart had a steak that was almost as good as a midwest steak! The dessert was my favorite part – a chocolate cake with chocolate syrup and ice cream, and a great view of the petronas towers!

Batu Caves Hindu Temple

This was probably my favorite place to visit in KL – the Batu Caves is a Hindu Temple famous for its rainbow stairs and golden statue of Hindu God Lord Murugan, the second tallest statue of a Hindu deity in the world! Make sure to wear long pants or a long skirt to be allowed on the steps! I wore a short skirt since it was so hot in March, and was going to need to rent a skirt to go up the stairs temple!

Petronas Towers

If you have the chance to go up to the top of the Petronas Towers, I would highly suggest it! We didn’t get a chance to do that (I wish we did!) But, there is a mall at the base of the towers with the best stores – Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, etc! Who doesn’t love a good shopping spree?!

After a few days in KL, we wanted to get out the city to relax and enjoy our time together. I did a TON of research to find the best resort with lots to do and see, and we decided on Pangkor Laut Resort!

Pangkor Laut Resort

Pangkor Laut is an island resort about 3 hours north of Kuala Lumpur on the west coast of Malaysia. This resort BLEW us away from the moment we arrived to check in. We were greeted with fresh lemonade and friendly staff. Since the resort is on an island, we had to take a ferry from the mainland and once we arrived… Reality was better than our wildest dreams. We had our own personal concierge explain everything on the island and help us book our dinners and excursions.

She lead us to our room – a bungalow over the water which was once only a dream of mine, and it was beyond beautiful. We had a king size bed and the bathroom took up half of the bungalow. This resort also had an infinity pool which we used everyday because it was SO hot! Plus, we became pretty good friends with the pool attendant and were never short on food or drinks.

Our favorite spot on the island had to be Emerald Bay – a beach that had a bar and restaurant and BEAUTIFUL views of the emerald green water. The water was so refreshing and clear, it felt like we were on our own private beach. Plus, the service was impeccable!!!

There were different restaurants around the island we had the opportunity to eat dinner at, and my favorite had to be Fisherman’s Cove. They served fresh fish out of the water close to the island, and I was able to surprise Stuart with a birthday cake at dinner. Since we booked directly on the website, we received a complimentary couple’s massage at the spa. I’d never been to a spa like this before, and we were able to experience traditional Malay treatments and felt beyond relaxed once we were done. For both hotels in Malaysia, I recommend booking directly with the website to get the best deals and incentives like spa treatments & discounts!

This trip was beyond anything I could have ever imagined and I’m so glad I was able to share it with Stuart… I hope you get the chance to have a trip of a lifetime if you haven’t already!
